Highland ‘Coos’ for Sale

Vindalbakken’s Gunnie

“Jolene” · CAN18013
Price: contact for pricing

Jolene was one of my very first cows and played a big part in making me fall in love with the breed. We also owned her sire, Zeus of Home Quarter. She is the matriarch of our herd—an excellent mother with lovely bone structure, and she’s added some beautiful colour to our calves over the years. We’ve retained one of her sons as a herd sire, but to maintain genetic diversity, we’ve made the difficult decision to part with her.

Jolene was AI-bred to the UK bull Jock 26th of Leys and covered by our main bull, Loki of North Star, over the summer. She is confirmed in calf and not expected to calve before March 2027.

We’ll be sad to see Jolene leave but look forward to seeing what she brings to her next family.

Kyla of Moffat

CAN18801
Price: contact for pricing

Kyla is a smaller-framed cow with proven calving ability and excellent maternal instincts. She has produced two lovely bull calves and consistently raises them well. Her beautifully symmetrical horns add to her appeal.

Kyla settles easily into a fold and is content to follow the herd. She has experience being brushed and haltered, although not consistently, but her love of grain should make refreshing that training fairly easy.

She was AI-bred to the renowned Jock 26th of Leys and covered to our two bulls, Loki of North Star and Magic Mike of Highcrest (a son of Jock 26th of Leys). Kyla is confirmed pregnant and is expected to calve no earlier than March 2027.

Magic Mike of Highcrest

CAN19750 · nt821 clear

This sale has been a difficult decision, but with my younger heifers coming into breeding age, it’s time to bring in unrelated genetics.

Magic Mike is sired by the renowned Jock 26th of Leys. When I started my fold, a dear friend gifted me a collection of frozen semen, and Magic Mike is part of that special beginning. I’ve truly enjoyed watching him mature into a calm, gentle bull who’s easy to handle. He was halter-trained when he was younger, though he would benefit from a consistent refresher.

His coat is a very light yellow—so pale, in fact, that we once thought he was white! I’m excited to see the calves he produces with my cows this coming spring. This is a heartfelt sale, made solely to manage the genetics in my fold.

Newton of Highcrest

Newton came into the world as a summer surprise after we were told his dam was open! He was kept as a pasture buddy for Nona, my show heifer from last year. He started out pretty rowdy, but his time with Nona turned him into a sweet, easily handled bull calf. Wishing Newton all the best in his next fold!

Pinocchio of Highcrest

Pinocchio is shaping up nicely and ready for his next pasture! After genetic testing confirmed he is a carrier for the double-muscling gene, we have decided to steer him to keep this gene out of breeding stock. This makes him a versatile choice for your farm: he’ll be a calm friend to other livestock, an eye-catching addition to your pasture, or a great option for high-quality beef in the future.
